Preparing for the First Appointment:
Eat well! Acupuncture may lower blood sugar, which may cause some people to feel dizzy.
Do not take any of the following, minimum 4 hours prior to your appointment:
Non-prescription drugs
CBD
Any caffeine or coffee
Ingest cold drinks/foods, or anything spicy
Acupuncture may enhance the effects of these substances, with unknown and variable outcomes.
Wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing that can be pulled up above knee or elbow
to allow easy and safe access for the acupuncture needles.
Acupuncture has a cumulative effect- more treatments means greater and more stable results.
Please note, acupuncture is a medical procedure, and all precautions should be treated as such.
During the Procedure
It is common for the procedure to be painless; however one or two needles may create a pinching sensation.
Those with greater body sensitivity may experience more discomfort, but there are
techniques available to reduce these feelings.
Aftercare:
Be prepared for an easy, restful day with a potential nap!
Acupuncture sends the body into “rest mode” to encourage itself to heal, so honor the urge to sleep and relax.
Exercise very light, if at all- nothing strenuous! A leisurely walk is ok.
No coffee into the following day, unless a serious dependency is present.
Refrain from sexual activity until the next morning following treatment, unless there is an increase of energy.
It is important to note that after acupuncture, there may be a worsening of symptoms.
We call this a “healing crisis”. This usually goes away anywhere between 1 hour-3 days after treatment.
Please share any details with the practitioner ASAP if this takes place.
